U-20 World Cup: Mexico vs Congo

<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
A type “David and Goliath” match-up today is announced by bookies. I’m not so sure about that, usually African teams at this level U17 – U20 are always a tough matchup to any team.

<o:p></o:p><o:p></o:p>I’m sure <st1:country-region><st1:place>Mexico</st1:place></st1:country-region> is the strongest team, but I will analyze other factor: scoring totals.

<o:p></o:p><o:p></o:p>In a classic game, <st1:country-region><st1:place>Congo</st1:place></st1:country-region> would defend always with 10 behind the midfield and expect a counter attack to cause damage.

<o:p></o:p><o:p></o:p>But I don’t expect that kind of approach of <st1:country-region><st1:place>Congo</st1:place></st1:country-region>’s side. Just look to what their coach said:<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
“The spine of this Mexico side is very strong, but their style of play suits us well and I strongly believe we can beat them”<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
Like any African team, <st1:country-region><st1:place>Congo</st1:place></st1:country-region> has powerful athletics players and always plays with a lot of pace.

<o:p></o:p><o:p></o:p><st1:country-region><st1:place>Mexico</st1:place></st1:country-region> is clearly a potential runner to win World Cup, have a well organized team and talented forwards. One thing they show in the 1st stage is that they a powerful counter attack weapon using the skill and speed of some players.

<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
They trashed African team <st1:country-region><st1:place>Gambia</st1:place></st1:country-region> 3-0, <st1:country-region><st1:place>Gambia</st1:place></st1:country-region> committed some mistakes and they gain advantage of them.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
Tonight I expect a “nothing to lose” <st1:country-region><st1:place>Congo</st1:place></st1:country-region>, trying to score a goal and left huge space in their back.

U20 World Cup, Quarter Finals, USA vs Austria

<small>July 14th, 2007 <!-- by admin --></small>

The American team has been the talk of the competition thus far, going undefeated through its first four games (two wins and two draws) by playing attacking soccer.

However against Uruguay they had tremendous problems to beat them and showed that the attacking soccer they played can be stopped.
I think they are better then Austrian side but not as many experts said, I’m not advice you to go 8/10 or upper like them are telling.
The U.S. is the second highest scoring team in the World Cup with 11 goals (Freddy Adu, Josmer Altidore and Danny Szetela have combined for nine) in four games.
The fact of only 3 players scored 9 of 11 USA goals can be a problem here, Austrian coach will try to limited those 3 players and if they can do that, USA team will have some problems.
“We won’t be able to match them for strength; we’ll have to rely on technique and keeping possession of the ball. If we can keep Adu under control, we’ve got a chance”

Altidore came out of the Uruguay game early in the second half with a calf strain and is questionable for Saturday’s contest, I don’t know if he will be 100% fit.
USA team when played with a defensive style opponent had some troubles: against South Korea they only shoot 8 times in a 1-1 draw, and against Uruguay they shoot again only 8 times.

Both games were on under scoring totals.
For tonight game I expect that Austrian plays based in a defensive way, trying to keep ball under control and expect a counter attack.
3 of 4 games were under 2.5 goals, last one against Gambia ends with 2-1 but the fact of Gambia were reduced to 10 man forced Austria to lead the game.
  • Pick: USA to win @ 1.73 Betfair 5/10
  • Pick: Under 2.5 Goals @ 1.94 Betfair 6/10

Both teams played with similar systems, in a 4-3-3 formation, but in my opinion there some details that put the total favoritism to Argentina squad.

Let’s analyze first the defense:
Brazil in this tournament had some troubles when opponent’s team had quicker and skilled forwards. Nery Castllo and Diego Forlan prove that kind of forwards make damage to Juan and Alex - two slowest defenders. Tonight is secure that Messi and Tevez will be in starting lineup, these players with their pace are a threat to Brazil.

The two playmakers Riquelme and Robinho will face different levels of opposing force. Robinho will be marked by Mascherano, a very tough player. Meanwhile without Gilberto Silva, Brazil doesn’t have a defensive midfield that can guard Riquelme.

Elano, Mineiro and Josué will be the midfields trio and no one can assume the Gilberto’s Silva role.

Argentina in the other side has a fantastic trio: Mascherano, Veron and Cambiasso are not also good in defensive mission but also great to begin offensive transitions. Brazil with those 3 players I mention certainly will have a lot of problems to control the rhythm and ball possession.

Other important fact is that Brazil almost attacks for the middle, Robinho, Love and Julio Baptista doesn’t use the sides to create chances, always in the center.
This can be good for Argentina; Gabriel Heinze will join Milito and Ayala in the center, a role that he can perfectly perform.

With all I mentioned of course for me Argentina will win the game, so let’s analyze bookies.

For me Argentina odds to win had to be 1.70 maximum, but Bookies offered 1.80/1.90.

With this value is certainly a value bet.

That's really great analysis Andre. The midfield of Argentina should definitely overrun the Brazilians. Also, very happy that Tevez is starting. You don't need a target man as a centre forward, if the two strikers are as amazing as Tevez/Messi.

Good luck to you bro
